Photoessay #1276 - Vacation planning
We intend to do more traveling in the near and medium future. It's the time. If not now, when? We've done a number of visiting trips in the last year. Dennis took the last week of June off. We likely have dog babysitting living in our very own house (another story(. We considered east coast visiting. Dennis wanted to go to Banff. Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise. Might be fun. Started looking into Canadian mountain resorts, the main Lake Louise lodge, whooo expensive more than $450/night. Other possiblities, yes but still pricey.
I made an off hand remark. "Gee, for that money we might as well go back to Kit Carson"
And we looked at each other. Yes, why DON'T we go back to Kit Carson?? Ditch the Rockies for the High Sierras. The more we thought about it, the more we liked the idea.
Last August we took a trip to California and part of it centered around Silver Lake, an alpine lake south of Tahoe. One advantage to California, there's just more of everything, including mountain resorts. We stayed at Kit Carson Lodge for one night. Really liked it. Would have stayed longer. 7300 feet elevation. Silver Lake wasn't quite how I remembered (gray blue gem out of the way of the Tahoe madness) but still beautiful. Like so many California places, there's just not another place like it. We both keyed in to some of the old fashioned mountain cabins, the painted brown board with green trim that we remembered from our youth. Yes, yes, that's how it looks like in the mountains.
We took a hike into that High Sierra landscape, maybe not as lush but so dramatic.
Yes, let's go back. We'll get a cabin this time. 4 nights in the Sierra, quiet, relaxing, yes, that should be our plan.
Shot from our balcony and one of the cabins from our hike last August.
