Our successful trip last week included a road trip to some unfamiliar places not so very far away. We stopped at a small town in the mountains, Hope, where three highways do come together. They feature the abandoned Othello railway tunnels in the gorge of the Coquihalla river as a destination.
We walked a short level way and walked through the tunnels that go right through the steep rock faces. They had to be abandoned because they became damaged with avalanches and other physical events. You can see through two tunnels in this picture. The Coquihalla River rans right next to the path. You can't tell it in this picture too much but the river is ROARING. It's a day after that big precipitation event (which disrupted Janine's wedding) and the river is running fast and loud.
Nice diagonals in this picture. My husband Dennis, natch. I think he really enjoyed this trip.
Another example of the picture being much more in focus when I uploaded it.
