I missed the mark on my visit to Edgewood yesterday. Turns out to be an actual city just across the Pierce County line just east of Milton. We had gone down Hwy 161 in a vain attempt to find an easy route to Puyallup on softball business (turns out there isn't one). I'd been aware of Milton but not Edgewood.
The service was held at Jovita Baptist Church, the name of another community right there. I took a picture of the front of the church but I missed the most interesting feature. There were some really odd Jesus banners which I did take a picture of.
Check out the banner in the front of the church. I didn't know what it was. Didn't seem to be a religious or iconographic picture. I just didn't know. You can see the bottom part, I regret not including the whole banner.
Afterwards, Dennis Aunt Emily told me that was a picture of the Edgewood Windmill. Apparently the most recognizable landmark of that town. And it's hangig in the front of the local Baptist church. Why not? It was a small town, grew a lot of berries, the coming of a windmill for irrigation was a big deal.
I did not get a chance to go see the windmill which was refurbished and moved over 30 years ago. Some local Eagle Scouts were working on it.
But, if I go back there, I'll go check it out. Hard to find a picture I could use but I took this one from a slide show from a realtor (Coldwell Banker).
Sometimes, in the south Sound, that area east, it's find to find interesting landmarks, it's pretty plain.
