Photoessay #1988- Delia's wedding
The New Haven papers featured elaborate accounts of my great grandmother Delia's wedding to her cousin Charles Weil. This article is from the New York World. It occurs to me that I don't have any evidence that Reginal Rosenthal Zunder (mother of Delia) and Johanna Weil (mother of Charles) were sisters. That was the family story. But I've never seen any *documentation* nor have I seen it mentioned anywhere else. They would have both been from Bavaria.
The only real dirt I have on Maier Zunder was that his youngest daughter Delia wanted to marry a Jacob Goodheart. But Maier thought he was too poor or generally not good enough. He may have been a student at Yale. I believe that he became one of the leading lawyers in the state. So at the age of 28, she married Charles Weil. But the family story was that she didn't want to. They only had one child, Regina, my grandmother. She died at the age of 44. "From a broken heart", according to the story my cousin heard from my grandmother. My grandfmother was only 13 when she lost her mother. Her father remarried.
I have a version of the Delia picture upstairs. I don't recognize the Charles picture
Naomi's home from break. Ilana's on her way to Lafayette to look for a place to live. On the move!
