Photoessay #1946 - Challenge

Last night I had a short meeting with one of my teachers, the historian about my Maier Zunder/Devotional Exercises project. The class requires a research paper about an ancestor. You don't have to have a lot of information; the emphasis is on social history. You might have just an obit about a great great grandfather who emigrated to Peoria, that's it, but you can write about what it would be like to live in the midwest at that time.

That's not my concern nor my challenge. I have a ton of information about my great great grandfather Maier Zunder and a great story to go along with it. I know it's good. Even Werner in New Haven was harassing my cousin Mal when he came to take a picture of 'the picture' that he wanted credit on my publication. Ha ha, I thought very flattering. And I talked that maybe I could publish my story in Vol 10 of "Jews in New Haven" if they had one.

Last night my teacher after hearing about it said that 'if I was confident enough' this could be published in some sort of historical journal.

I realize that this is just the encouragement I want. But now I have to do it. I have to write it. I have to write it WELL. Can I do it? Can I do it? It's right here, the opportunity is now. I've been reeling at the possibilities since last night.

OK, I'm giving it a shot.

Picture is my latest piece of information given to me by the New Haven Public Library. The Board of Education met at the high school. At that time (1877) there was only one high school, Hillhouse High School in the Nine Squares area at Orange and Wall. Not there now but I managed to find this picture from the Yale historical images library. I really want to be able to set the scene.
