Photoessay #1267 - Seder

We were honored to attend a passover seder last night hosted by my friend Joline. A few years ago, Joline joined us for our seder but usually she loves doing herself. Lovely, fun, lots of food, nice people. 14 people total including Joline's daughter and step-daughter. And a very young child, Samantha (3 or 4 years old?). Joline's daughter, Serena helped Samantha find the afikomen. Dennis and I remember that the search for the afickomen with our kids was a no holds barred effort, especially with the other family when we used to go to Vashion Island. Throwing an elbow, full body tackle, all allowed. Even though they all knew that everybody got the same candy bar gift at the end.

But this was much more civilized. Joline led, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available for the ceremonial four cups of wine. Joline makes a mean chickenliver (delicious!). She made the traditional sephardic charoses with dates rather than apples. mmmmmmm matza with chicken liver, date choases topped with home made potent horeseradish. Yummmy! Also matza ball soup, fruit compote (I brought), beautiful salad, and a creamy potato dish.

I wish I had taken a picture of the dessert. A fruit covered tort with fruit on a cream cheese topping, the crust was really a cookie crust with chocolate chips. Made with coconut flour. Clever!

First shot sows Joline leading the seder. The chicken liver in the bowl in front of her. Second shot shows a portion of the table as we all go through the seder program.

We all had a great time. And I found a home for my Joyce Carole Oates tickets with Annika from my class.
