Photoessay #860 - Letterboxes and the North Umpqua

As always, we entertained ourselves inEugene, buying some clip on sunglasses and Thanksgiving napkins at Hirons, and stampcarving supplies at the University Book store. We found letterboxes in downtown Eugene and in the enthusasitically maintained if extremely rough in the landscaping department Masonic Cemetary up University Street. The actual letterbox was inside a cemetary marker right near Eugene Skinner’s grave (founder of Eugene). Then on to Dorris ranch, a working farm and park of century old Hazelnut/Filbert trees. Really gnarled and creepy. I put a letterbox inside a big tree adjacent to the historic orchards.
We’re now at a little resort on the North Umpqua river. Beautiful wild looking river, you walk down a path and there’s a gorgeous section of the river flowing in rapids and riffles with a huge forested cliff in the background. Beautiful blue green and gray tones. Cozy cabins overlook the river.
The information for this place said “no pets, use ours” and sure enough a gray tabby cat appeared, came into our cabin and made himself comfortable on one of the chairs. Soon there’s supposed to be a fancy gourmet dinner.
No internet, no cell phone connection, no tv, just the sound of the river. It’s good! Seven cabins, seems like we are the only ones here so far. Maybe not so much biz on a Wednesday in October. Beautfiful day, though,
Am using Dennis’ little Acer computer for the first time. Dennis is taking my picture “Two can play this game”, he says.
