Another beautiful indian summer saturday afternoon. Dennis, Teddy and I made our way to an inner city high school where some of the local softball teams staged a 'friendly' tournament. A chance for the newly formed teams to get some game experience before departing for college exposure tournaments. We help one team out with website and some recruiting advising.
One experienced player got a crucial hit with runners on base. She rounded first and attempted to get to second hoping to draw the throw so the runner could score. She did and she scrambled back to first with a head first dive.
They tell you not to do that.
She didn't slide back particularly hard but she came up in pain, holding her arm and eventually collapsing. The coaches went out and motioned for a parent to come out, I think he may be a doctor. Possible a dislocated shoulder. She came off the field with a lot of assistance and the assisting parent fashioned a sling out of somebody's sweatshirt.
Picture showing the parent putting the sling together with one of the coaches steadying the player in support. I know that it hurts so bad!
The parents were able to take her themselves and were instructed to go to the nearest emergency room. I hope she's all right...I know she has a recruiting visit coming up soon.....
