Here I am presenting (with my friend Jean seated behind me) at the Crown College presentation of the Priscilla Parkin Memorial Award. I didn't know until the time of the program that the Provost had very recently notified the 4 award recipients for this year and they would be expected to get up and say a few words. He now he says that he wants to present the Priscilla Parkin award during alumni week from now on.
Now that I reflect on it, this satisfied one of my original desires (ok, unrealistic) that I would somehow present the award. Certainly not decide on the recipients nor act in any kind of official capacity. But, in a way, it did happen. We made our presentation and then each participant came up and said a few words about themselves and had the opportunity to thank the college for the award. So pretty close, right?
We do also have a zoom video which Dennis made specifically for Priscilla's sister Janice. Watching that, I was happy to report that the hat I wore did look ok and appropriate. My voice was kinda reedy and didn't consistently project. But I didn't feel completely ashamed so that's a plus. It's a risk that we all have to take.
I gave an intro and talked about Priscilla and introduced the award. Jean talked about the contributions and the written responses that we had received from award recipients.
Pleased to be able to do it. And we love to hear Priscilla Parkin's name invoked and honored. It's been happening all this time and, though I sort of knew it, I didn't realize the importance and the power.
