As I've mentioned, when you participate as part of the university community, you hear about events. It's zoom times but Dennis and I sat in a talk on Yemeni architecture. Sponsored by a student group who wanted to highlight information about Yemeni culture while still advocating against the war going on there. We heard all about these tower houses unique to Yemen. Very old, many stories. Usually one extended family. The higher your floor, generally the higher your status. Also involve lots of stain glass windows and other ornamental art. I had no idea about these, you never know!
Then today I listened to a talk put on by the Jackson School "Whose Struggle for What? Sexual Minorities and Social Movements in Africa," Couldn't figure out what she was talking about. Not a word. Clearly above my head in the theoretical constructs. She had a heavy accent which didn't help.
So you win some, you lose some, Yemeni architecture is the clear winner!
