CNN's Brian Stelter writes that he thinks the news cycle has slowed down and it's a 'beautiful thing.'
Have you recovered from Donald Trump's attitude towards news and information? Always keep it churning. He would make one outrageous announcement after another. Was it true? Would be followed up? Who cares! He always made sure that the attention was clearly on him. Every day was a television production, the only thing important was to get the highest rating. Send out an incendiary tweet ridiculing public figures, retweet some unsubstantiated conspiracy theory. Make sure it's always going. Me me me.
Maybe sneak in some important policy announcement, Can people pick it out? Will it be implemented? Does it make ANY sense? What does this mean? Again, who cares? Who thinks about tomorrow?
So much trash coming out of the White House? If I ever thought chaos was attractive, I've definitely changed my mind. Somebody suggested that Trump was a news arsonist. Blow it up! Start it on fire. Consistency and competence were not rewarded. Truth? Unnecessary. Just the headlines and the TV cameras, that all that mattered.
So journalists are understandably exhausted, so tired of being jerked around by every little thing.
Is that picture a sunset? Or a sunrise? Under Trump, who knew? You couldn't tell. By the time, you figured it out, he would throw something out.
So now we're back to some saner times. Maybe news coming out now will be more thoughtful, consistent useful.
Yay for a slower news cycle.
