I looked for a random Thanksgiving shot; this is for 2013. It's bad when you can't remember everybody! Danny, Jessica and her family are there, maybe the man in the back is Jessica's stepdad. And the little boy, he came with them and I never quite figured out how he fit in. Megan is there with her dad but where's Suzie; is she stuck in Alabama? Naomi's there. Ilana's in the midwest.
But I'm not thinking 2013, I'm thinking 2020. What are we gonna do for Thanksgiving. The medical columns, they say no, no Thanksgiving dinner. Whaaaat? I don't know if I can go there.
Dennis agrees with the columns. In past years, my sister Pam has come from Indiana and my brother Charlie from the Bay Area. But neither of them want to go on a plane.
I went down the Farmer's Market and bought way too much hummus and pita chips. Can you have too much hummus and pita chips? We'll find out.
Seattle Pops was there, run by Lindsey, Megan's sister. Stopped by to chat, kinda grey and damp. The weather not Lindsey. I could tell she had been thinking about it. We could do it outside, she suggested; Pops has lots of tables and canopies we could use. And we could have one person serving up the food so everybody isn't touching the serving dishes.
I think this could be a good idea.
I get home and Naomi is there delivering the groceries. If we did it outside, where should we have it. Our backyard? Kind overgrown and has dog poop. Dennis suggested Naomi's new place, she's got that nice deck. She doesn't want to do that.
So it's in play. Thanksgiving is in play. I am fortunate to have a lot possibilities and extended family that I've built up over the years. Not the relatives that were here when we came in 1979. They're gone, but I have these others who expect to be included in the holidays.
