Surprise wedding 4 years ago

These pictures were from four years ago when Suzie and Megan got married.  The plan (with our wholehearted approval) was to have a destination formal wedding in Hawaii with family and a few friends.  And prior, have a send-off party locally where they could invite lots of people.  Believe it or not, that is a LOT cheaper that trying to pull off a conventional wedding here.  Turned out REALLY well,  Even Suzie, who can be revisionist, said that it was everything she wanted and hoped for.  The party venue is a small commercial place in Georgetown.  You can see Dennis and I, Suzie and I dancing and the happy couple.  With their friend Meredith in the background.

But there was a catch that even I didn't know about.  Turns out that if you get married in Hawaii, you have to have a Hawaii marriage license.  You can't just get a license here and have the ceremony here.  So, towards the end of the party, Suzie took a mike, called me and Megan's dad Dave up to the stage.  I motioned Dennis to come with me.  And Meredith married them legally right then and there!

My sister in law good naturedly complained, "Well if I'd know they were getting married, I would have stayed!"  I replied, "I would have told you to, if I had known!"

Isn't that one of the bottom lines about parenting?  Mom is always the last to know.
