Today, my friend Nancy and I went down to McAleer Creek to perform Tashleich for Rosh Hoshanah. You go down to running water and you throw things into the water as an absolution, for forgiveness, to unburden your soul. Before we used bread but now that's not encouraged Nancy brought a basket of special stones from her yard. We threw those into the running creek. We had some readings. We particularly wished for compassion for her sister and daughter as we threw the stones into the creek. And acknowledged that we were worthy. We shouted that.
Then we went to lunch.
Tashleich is loosely based on Micah 7:18-20
Who is God like You, forgiving iniquity and pardoning the transgression of the remnant of Your people? Yu do not maintain anger forever but You delight lin lovingkindness You will again have compassion upon us, subduing our sins, casting all our sins into the depths of the sea.
