The hills just east of Leavenworth
We just came back from three days in the Leavenworth area. Think Hwy 2; we've always liked it.
I admit, despite my lifelong aversion to arid areas, I've been thinking "Get me out of this g-d rain forest!" Too much damp and dark. No more blue gray waters and deep green trees. I've had it!
So we went over the mountains avoiding the Bavarian-ness of Leavenworth. No Bavarian either! But they do have a lovely park there and we had fun letter-boxing.
The terrain changes very abruptly between Leavenworth (the Alps!) and Cashmere (arid hills!) in about 10 miles. Here we are about half way in between, we were looking for Peshastin Pinnacles State Park but missed the turn. We went a couple miles up into the hills and really admired the views.
We think the sluice on the left is irrigation related. It's right next to the Wenatchee River.
