Ilana is now BRASS chair! That would be the Business Reference and Services Section of the American Library Association Reference and User Services (RUSA) Division.
This is a big deal even though it involves a rather specialized pond. I remember when she managed to get to her first ALA conference 8 or so years ago when she was in library school. I think a whole bunch of students shared a room. She was so thrilled that she got to go to BRASS meetings and was accepted as a student member. Now she's BRASS chair. With a gavel, no less. She says that one of her main goals is to not lose the gavel. Knowing Ilana, that is not trivial. More than one person advised her to give it to Matt, her husband, who would make sure it didn't get lost.
But congratulations to her and naches to me. An important person (and an elected official at that!) in the family.
