On Wednesday, I participated in a successful event; a faculty lecture on Risk Management put on by our Access Student Group. I wasn't strictly in charge; John S (pictures with his arms spread wide) is the Program Chair. Putting on an event like this is a ton of work. Getting the room, finding the speaker, figuring out the university's complicated rules which nobody has any accurate knowledge.
And the most scary of all: will anybody come? More work. Putting up some small posters. Sending out email announcements to our group, getting some other announcements. Will anybody come??
They came, we had over 35 show up. Whew! Actually all our events have had good turnout.
I think the trick to this kind of event planning is to emotionally let go of the turnout as an indication of success.
That's the idea, can we do it?? Really working as an established UW RSO is great. So many services. That's a pretty nice room that we got, with some effort, for free.
I'm taking pictures; Dennis is helping getting the chairs out. John is leading....
