I am always in denial about December. "I don't do much at the holidays, I'm available for team meetings," I tell people. It's a lie. Though I have worked hard to kill off Christmas, no decorations, no cookies, no concerts, no special dinner.
We pick names for presents. That means that I and everybody else only has to buy one present, $40 max. No big shopping trips to buy junk that nobody needs. In fact, I will do just about anything to not go into a store. Three significant others involved in our gift exchange this year.
We will have a xmas breakfast. Usually Susanna makes eggs and sausage, Ilana makes waffles. We'll have a special xmas eve party at the greater Gellermans this year. Often we would go out that night. Not too many places open but Peking House is.
Oh, and yeah, two of my kids have birthdays in the last half of December. One of many artifiacts to show that we did not plan our family formation with any intention.
This year, it will be particularly crazy because
Dec 7 Naomi arrives from Ellensburg
Dee 15 Susanna arrives from Birmingham, not sure if Megan will be here
Dec 22 Ilana and Matt arrive from Indiana
Everybody's staying here. All I have to do is stand in my kitchen and things will be nuts.
We're not used to it any more. I was thinking of maybe mounting a King Tut exhibit outing. But it will likely be crowded. I could be talked into it.
This season, at this time, is a time when Dennis and I pick up quite a few restaurant tabs for large numbers of people. You start with a foundation of a party of 9.
Picture of a cute picture of Ilana from last summer, I think she uses it on her facebook. Indiana State Fair. Matt likes looking at the farm equipment.
