Photoessay #2035 - What friends are for

I belong to a group of women of a certain age.  It's supposed to be a writing group.  But it's really a personal support group that does a little bit of writing.

If you can't count on your friends, who will really be there for you?

A member of our group is very worried about winter.  Her husband is on home kidney dialysis and she's worried.  What if he got the flu?  What if the power went out?  She's somebody who does things.  She's decided that everybody in the surrounding zip codes just better get a flu shot.  Or else.  And it won't be pretty.  She tried bribery, she went down to her husband's work and said "OK, all of you, here's the deal, everybody get a flu shot and I will personally provide a platter of home made cookies every week for the whole year!

She's arranged with a business down the street (they have a generator) to use their power if it goes out.  But what if it's in the middle of a session and there are tubes and needles and blood running through the machine?

So she needs one of these babies.  Battery backup.  This family gets by on what they have, thank you very much.  But she would like to have one but just not sure how to scrape up the dough.

So, some secret admirers have come together to make this happen.

The trick will be to get her to accept it.
