My cousin Mary Ann went out to photograph our newly identified home of our great great grandfather Maier Zunder. Colin Caplan,, an architectural historian, tells us that the current building is made up on two separate townhouses. Yes, now I see, the windows are different. These two buildings 348 Orange Street and 350 Orange Street are now combined and occupied by a law firm. Since Maier's address was 352 and some renumbering has taken place, I assume that Maier's house was on the right...not the whole place as originally thought. Colin estimates that these homes were built 1860-67. Makes sense. I know that Maier and his family lived here in 1874 when Regina died. And probably a while before that. I think this is a situation where I could go to the LDS Family research center and request the property records; maybe I could find it.
Next trip, maybe we can poke around there and get an idea what it might be like to live there. Just outside the Nine Squares area of New Haven.
Many thanks to My cousin Mary Ann and her husband Denny for taking the picture.
