Photoessay #2009 - Impromptu Seder

The main Pesach Seder takes place this evening.  I hadn't planned to do anything, Ilana in Ann Arbor, Naomi in Ellensburg.  But still kinda sad.  Last year we went to Joline's seder; that was such fun.

This morning Naomi called, she was bemoaning that there was no seder in Ellensburg to attend.  So I said we could at least make some soup but then I got the idea that we could make a seder.  Would she come from Ellensburg (only two hours away)?  Yes, she would.  I invited Matt and some other close friends (who ended up not coming at the last minute).  My friend Lee came over and she helped bring in the groceries and we made the charoset.  Before I knew it, I had a full seder on my hands.  Susanna was going to be here anyway.  I attempted matza balls for the first time.  They came out great, but I'm not sure why I felt that I had to make three boxes worth.  Since when it actually occurred, there were only five on us.  Naomi arrived mid-afternoon and took care of the table.  I made chicken soup and fruit compote.

We definitely had some holes when some of guests pulled out.  But I put some eggs on to hard-boil and it all worked out.  Susanna LOVED having all of the matza balls she wanted to eat.  Really one of the best seders we've had as everybody brought their good spirits.

Dennis wasn't feeling so great and Susanna made quick work of all the dishes (and there were a bunch.

It's never too late to plan a seder.
