Photoessay #1931 - It's installed!
Our gas fireplace is in and it's working. It doesn't look gorgeous right now but it's functional. James was here from 5-9pm last night. Showed up here at 9am in the middle of freezing rain that turned back into snow (despite the forecast). By 1:30, it looks like this. It's doing it's initial burn. One issue is that when it's on, the thermostat might get messed up and it gets cold in the rest of the house. His workers all couldn't work because of the snow which opened up his schedule to put in our gas fireplace. Yay!
But it's working and it's warm. We're in the middle of a big weather event here. As I've written, this area is not set up for snow and when it does snow, everyone panics. You can cancel anything at all when it snows. I haven't been out of the house since Sunday night when I (rather unwisely) went out to a Starbucks to talk about writing with a friend. And it's now late Thursday afternoon. This event was supposed to be over today. But it's not. I just heard that 212,000 are out of power in our region. Huge! I cannot believe (knock on wood, don't want to jinx it) that we have been spared so far. The houses in back of us were without power last night. We didn't have power for four hours on Sunday.
But now, we have a nice new gas fireplace. So we won't be cold if we do lose power. We also have a gas stove and water heater. Things are really looking up. It will cost a pretty penny but it will help with my 'oh no! we'll lose our power!' freakout.
Another client of James had a carport collapsing in the snow so he had to ditch us to work on that. But it's operational, that's the most important.
Happy! Happy!
