Ilana leaves EARLY tomorrow morning to go back to Michigan. She's wondering now why she made those reservations on Dec 31, she could have stayed an extra few days. I said I wanted to take their picture before they went off to meet some friends for coffee. I originally went with an underexposed picture now at the bottom of this post. I'm having real trouble with the color in this shot. The faces especially, I don't know how to explain it but the color is all off.
They were mugging for the camera here with Teddy, who's always nearby.
Dennis just came in and says it's a 'gamma problem' which I don't know what that means.
Ilana picked this other picture instead. Clearly I have too long of a shutter speed but there's movement.....
Matt's been here for as long as Ilana's been here..a week. And it's all been fine. He's been helpful and attentive here and really pitched in with the greater Gellerman house fire and aftermath.
Preliminary lessons from that experience:
a. do not have a house fire
b. never light candles. Ever. Except for hanukah candles
c. even though your adult daughter insists on putting out the fire herself and even though you know there's no way to stop her, it's not a good idea. Even if she does manage to put out the fire
d. sprinklers, overall, are a good thing but the water damage can by way worse than the fire damage.
e. an argument could be made that the reason why there wasn't much fire damage was because the sprinklers came on.
f. if you are a renter and maybe if you're not, you have to completely move out so the rehabilitation people can do their job
g. this was not what you had in mind between xmas and new years
hi naches to me that three of my adult kids plus boyfriend matt went over there at least once to help
h. having two dogs visiting for the duration doesn't really help
And we are all grateful that all present, 9 people, 5 cats and 3 dogs are all fine.
Back to Matt and Ilana ... they both graduate in the next six months ... from different universities in different states (Ilana masters degree in Library and Information Science from University of Michigan and Matt bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from University of Washington). And what happens next is up to them.
My talk went fine at the Shoreline chapter last night.
