Photoessay #1306 - Folklife

This year, I mainly stayed away from Folklife, the huge music festival down at Seattle Center. Dennis went on Friday before things really got going. For us old folks, sometimes the best strategy to pick one venue and then just stay there and listen to all of the acts. Preferable indoors and comfortable. Otherwise the crowds are just impossible.

Dennis convinced me to go today to the "Big Jewish Show" at the Bagley Wright Theater. We could then go onto West Seattle to see our SIFF movie "Surrogate Valentine". Aren't we the cultured privileged?

So we did and I did enjoy the 5 acts we saw. Some sort of klezmer, some not. The picture is from the first band, more of a community band, Klez Chaos. We also saw the Marianas and a group doing more middle-eastern Chasidic kind of chants (maybe my favoritie). The last act was the Klezmer Band from the University of Washington. Improved from the last time we saw them on Whidbey Island some months ago.

We went outside into the crowd and got some lunch. Lots of things but I decided to go not for the various ethnic lunches rather the Roasted Corn and the Strawberry Shortcake from Biringer Farms. Go for the top.

Then on our way to West Seattle to see a SIFF film "Surrogate Valentine" which we enjoyed, kind of a west coast young artist memoir. The director and lead actor and musician were there to answer questions and play some music. Fun!
