Photoessay #1278 - Kitsalano Beach

Janine suggested that we go by Kitsalano Beach after we left University of British Columbia. She is moving into an apt in that district this very weekend. The neighborhood does look livable and fun with lots of apartments and shops. In the first shot, you don't really see the beach at all, just the water and the landscape beyond. And Ilana too, of course. Vancouver is a large city with lots of high rise buildings though you would never know it from this shot. The urban landscape is visible from here if you look to the right. The mountains rise dramatically on the north and east sides of the city. We're looking north across English Bay outside of Vancouver Harbor with Stanley Park in the middle background and the North Shore Mountains beyond.

The large container boats demonstrate the mightiness of Vancouver as a port.

Ilana actually stands right at the water's edge.

The second shot shows Janine and Ilana near the entrance of the building she works in on the UBC campus. Nice lavender azalea! She introduced Ilana to a co-worker as her "oldest oldest friend".
