I have only one more football game to usher this year. The last game (Senior Day) is scheduled for Thursday Nov 18 vs UCLA. The Thursday game (I've already written about this) has thrown everyone into a big tizzy.
But last weekend, I did the Stanford game. In the rain. Luckily most of the rain fell before the game when I'm doing the part of my job that involves just standing there in a tunnel on the south upper deck with nobody in my section. I guess it's all about the presence of somebody in a yellow slicker. But I sure stand for a long time with nobody there at all. Because my section at the end is the smallest, I'm by myself though David in the next tunnel over comes over to visit from time to time.
But finally, FINALLY, people start to come and take their seats. I'm beginning to recognize some of the regulars. Less general confusion as the season goes on. They've sold 60-65K tickets so it's been reasonable full. The only sellout was Nebraska when those cherry red clad fans filled the stadium. Remember, approx 27K fans from Nebraska! Amazing.
So one picture showing my tunnel as people start to come, always optimistic that the team won't be routed (sorry, not this time). And a view from partway up my stairs looking across the south deck during the game. Though people started leaving in the 2nd quarter, it was so bad. Part of my job involves walking up the stairs twice/quarter just in case somebody needs my attention. My boss says to walk every half hour though usually I don't quite get up there that often. This probably was just before I dropped my camera and it bounced down 4 or 5 stairs. Can't believe that camera still works!
I worried before this job started that I would not be able to do it physically. That I would not have the stamina nor the strength to stand that long time and be able to go up and down the stairs. That the job would exhahst me. But I've been able to do it fine and that's really bolstered my confidence. Dennis and I agree that has been an excellent outcome for me.
