Yesterday evening, Dennis and I attended a surprise party for my friends Mary Ann and Pat put on by their two youngest adult children in honor of their 40th anniversary. I think it was just the right amount of surprise-ness. Mary Ann thought something was happening, so she wasn't completely shocked; 'I did spiff up the bathroom just in case", she said , John (their son) invited them to a movie and out shopping with a return of 6pm. Roni (their daughter) then set up the party, food etc. John had called us several weeks ago and then followed up. Nobody minded chipping in bringing food or beverages.
John gave a toast to his parents midway through the party. Nervous, he forgot to have the glass in his hand when he did it. He worried beforehand "What do you say? I've never done this before!) I reassured him and he gave a great sentimental toast. Time and place for everything!
In the second picture, co-host Roni (in the headscarf) looks on with the guests as her parents walk in to their house filled with their family and friends. I'm sure she did a lot of work to put it all together and she has two small children, Abu and Leila though I didn't get any good pictures of them :(
I met Mary Ann in 1981 when she called us for our first pre-adopt session. We've been friends ever since through some thick and thin. We have a tradition at New Years. Mary Ann keeps a little calendar in her purse. Every year we consider what's going on in our lives and with out family. Mary Ann writes it down and we compare it with the notes from last year.
Happy Anniversary! My parents did a big deal for THEIR 40th anniversary. I'll dig up some pictures and feature it soon. It's 33 years for us, not that far away from 40 years ourselves.! Mary Ann brought out a little photo album of their wedding. Do you think it might be time for me to take out our wedding photos from the ragged envelope and put them in an album? People teased me last night Don't rush into it, see if it lasts"
