Photoessay #876 - Honor

Last night at the Changes Auction, the group honored Kirk Honda as Family Advocate of the year. Many families in the group have used his counseling services. As my friend Bill H mentioned in his introduction, Kirk is not perceived my the young person as a shill for the parents neither does he always take the young person's part. He's respected by all parties. Many of the teenagers and young adults meet with him for quite some time.

I actually had not ever met him, heard about him forever. I thought that he didn't think too highly of the group. Not really a criticism as our parent group's program is appropriate for some but not for everybody. He has produced a series of podcasts and one that he made with two Changes parents is featured on the parent group website. Very well done IMO. Very deserving for his continuing work with acting out adolescents and young adults with their families.

The auction went well, not that many Seattle Group people came but that room would not have fit many more people. Delicious barbecue themed dinner. I suspect it didn't make as much as they hoped. I feel the economics uncertain times kept bidding down.

I bought the Board dinner which should be fun. Danny came and spoke. At first, he thought that this would be a long evening indeed but I think he had a good time. He pointed out that having alcohol served seemed contrary to the group's purpose and mission. Actually, I agree with that but I've radicalized my ideas about alcohol use. He gave a short impassioned speech as scheduled and, as usual, was treated with admiration and respect.

Didn't write an entry yesterday :(

In the bad dog categoy...As I was sitting right here, Teddy chewed through the cable for my new headphones...Dennis JUST bought them for me, we just got them working today....Dennis (and I) not pleased with 10 month old Teddy
