Photoessay #360 - The seder plate

The seder plate from last month's seder. The plate containing the ceremonial items placed on the table. Egg, salt water, charoses, parseley, bitter herbs, shank bone, wine.

For us 'wine' is grape juice. Sobriety stand and all that.

And the orange (shown with Ilana's hand). There's a story I've heard over the last 20 years or so that comes actually through the Reconstructionist tradition. A rabbi talked about whether women should become rabbis. He thundered "The day that a woman is a rabbi is the day that an orange is on the seder plate!" So we put an orange on the seder plate.

Picture features my grandmother's silver candlesticks, haggadah, serving dishes with matzah, parsley and horseradish and Elijah's cup as well as a camellia blossom from my yard.
