From the pictures found in the trunk a month or so ago. This one has a development date on the back of May 3 1949....just about 59 years ago.
Claire Baumann and Allen Ginsburgh about a year before their marriage. From a companion picture, looks like some kind of event in Boston with my father's family. Ages 25 and 23 here....hmmm about the same age of Danny and Susanna now...that's scary. They look happy here, my mom especially making a good impression. I'll have to bring this picture with me next week to ask what she remembers of it. Wonder why my father doesn't have his glasses on. He was never heavy and was quite a beanpole as a young man, has the requisite jacket and vest and tie on. As my mother would have said 50 years later, "He probably still has the tie". My mother's got the engagement ring on, a young jewish couple ready to make their way.
Last week, at our swimming class, myself and the other older ladies, somehow we got talking about my friend Julia's estonian heritage, how her family got here. She talked about her grandparents, they emigrated to rural Canada, worked on the railroad and the hotel. I asked others "What was your grandfather doing in 1920". On the farm, working for the railroad, mostly modest, country. I realized how my story was a bit out of synch. "My grandfather was graduating from Harvard as a scholarship student from Rochester" He was the one out of line. Just looked up the Harvard Club of Rochester to ask if they have historical records.
