Dr. Kenneth Thimann was the founding provost of Crown College. He was an esteemed scientist and committed academic. He served in that job the first two or three years I was there. He used to speak to us on College Nights and other events. When he spoke, we listened. He inspired me and everybody else too. With his plummy accent and commitment to UCSC and the study of science, he encouraged us to greater heights. I know he had stronger relationships with other students and I never spoke to him directly (nor he to me), he still influenced me greatly. Just having him there gave a greater gravity to Crown College and the UCSC endeavor.
