The address we searched for was Sloestraat 6, somewhat south of the old city with it's concentrc canals. But it was only half a block from a major canal. Many apartment blocks like this in the area. Several of the neighbors came out to talk with us. They mentioned that this was considered an upper middle class address. And so it was when the Baumann family lived here. They said that it was built in 1937, the inter-war years. Since the Baumanns came in 1935, they likely lived somewhere else first. Again weak connections to the Frank family. A neighbor said that his kids went to the 'Ann Frank' school just nearby. Same school that Ann attended. I remembered from our history talk at the Anne Frank house that the family originally lived south somewhere. Must be just around here. Always close and getting closer.
The first image was from a mapping program, the second was the day of the service. I was so nervous about being late or the taxi not coming. But that all worked out and you can see Maryann, Pam and Dennis in the front of the building.
Even the rabbi wrote back and said that the occupants of Sloestraat 12 had been close friends with his parents.
