Flash's Moth Story

My cousin, Flash Rosenberg, pictured above, told a story featured on the Moth Radio Hour this past weekend.  I can probably find a link.  She had one some years ago where she talked about her father and pennies.  This one was the longest and the last story of the hour.  It was a darker story about living and getting along in New York City.  The brightly colored coat above features in the story.  The main event in the story involves a trip on the subway alone and something happens and, next thing she knows, she wakes up in a hospital.  She ends up ok but let's be real here people, she's only a few years younger than me.  She frames the story as a quest to find out what happened in that subway station.  It centers on a steak house near her apartment (where she would order the vegetarian sides) that she often frequented when living in midtown.  She remembers returning late at night alone and that she was very hungry.  Turns out she somehow passed out and fell off the platform.  One of the waiters from the steakhouse saw her, recognized the lady in the coat as a regular customer and rescued her.  Just how, we're not sure.  She ends reflecting on her quest by remembering her years in Hebrew School.  What can we learn here, she asks.  Maybe Hineni "Here I am."

Flash always beautiful, articulate, talented, and warm.  My cousin.
