Salal

Can you believe it?  We are planting some salal!

Dennis arranged for our ivy to be ripped out.  We had a lot!  With no plan about what we would do.  I think some of the ivy will come back.  Politically incorrect here to have ivy (it creates a plant desert, etc).  I think they also pulled out an even scarier element back in the corner, the plant that everybody dreads.  Blackberries!

I decided to go to the nursery and buy the hardiest ground cover I can find.  Hardy.  So I find the ground cover section.  The lady points to one rack, here are our native plants.  I see the salal.  It grows in the forest everywhere around here.  I mean, one could go into a park and dig up some salal and nobody would ever notice.  Huh, I thought, salal, you probably can't kill it.  Why not salal?  Nobody would plant salal.  I bought 8 little plants.  Can't believe I'm paying cash money for salal.  Dennis liked the idea.  He even planted it.  It has flowers and edible berries.  If it does well, we'll go buy some more.
