Sad Times
A Cambodian family with family ties very recently experienced the death of their mother. Here they are in their home, the husband, the four grown children and one granddaughter. The death was not unexpected but still a shock. I'm noting the difference in funerary customs. The mother, recently deceased with the body likely prepared in some way dressed in some traditional clothes. Laid out on a white sheet in their front room. Surrounded by family. This is likely something done traditionally.
This not generally done for American deaths. We never did this for our parents or grandparents. They are whisked away and we leave. But there are traditions for body preparation done by family and close members of the community. This appeals to me but I don't know how to access it.
