Hosting Karl and his parents
I met Karl (far right) a young Chinese student in my geography class. He is always courteous to me and often finds me after class to tell me what's going on with his ambitious life. He mentioned a few weeks ago that his parents were coming to visit from China. I invited them all to dinner.
And it happened. Here we are as it's getting a little dusky on our back deck. I made barbecued hamburgers, potato salad and popsicles (furnished by Seattle Pops, natch). Karl and his family brought some fruit. His parents didn't speak English but we got along. At first they were quite worried about the dog and his forward antics. But they got used to him. Naomi came. We all ate a lot and talked around the table.
They were so pleased to be able to visit and share a meal with an established American family.
