In case, someone doesn't recognize these items, these are the booties that my mother and grandmother used to make for any and all new babies they heard about. It was literally my mother's last wish that Naomi continue to knit these booties.
And she has. In fits and starts. And sometimes in crazy colors. But, if there's a baby, Naomi will knit booties for that baby. She had to work pretty hard to figure out how to knit them. We do have a pattern from 1901. But, with the help of yarn shop ladies, she's figure it out.
After she knit them for awhile, she grumbled "I guess I'm going to have to do this forever..." I answered cheerily "Yes you do!" I think she likes it.
She did have an ambition to knit booties every color of the rainbow; she did accomplish this interesting rainbow in the picture. It's not a conventional rainbow but I definitely think it works.
Most of these booties are lacking the yard tie that go around the baby's ankle. These are no ordinary booties. They don't come off. You put them on baby and baby cannot kick them off. They are the best booties, ever.
Naomi's in Macao working with seventh graders...
