Photoessay #2819 - Some more zunder family news

The historian's task is never done.

I'm not even actively working on MORE Zunder details.

But quite a few things have surfaced, I haven't even had time to get them sorted out.

Sue Geiger who works on the Lederer side wrote that a discovered family story stated that Sauuel Ledere (another great great grandfather) had paid somebody to fight on his behalf in the Union Army.  This was legal, cost $300.  This soldier died in the fighting and Samuel Lederer financially supported his family.

Samuel Lederer was born in 1824; Maier Zunder in 1829.  Maier did not serve in the Union Army.  He would have been 34 when the draft law was enacted.  Propserous, he could have done the very same thing.  Not sure how I can find out.

Then, futzing around, looking through the net for something interesting to write about (you all are tired of my publications plus my professor at UW veered off unexpectedly into Animal Rights...how did he get there from Hannah Arendt, I dunno).  I find this announcement of Desenberg-Zunder wedding in Kalamazoo in 1891.  Son of Louis, brother of Belle.  It all fits but I thought Louis (brother of Maier, went to Michigan) only had two daughters Belle and Carrie.  A son Aaron, who ran a shoe firm in Omaha?  I'm not quite sure of this but the connections are too close.  So, if they had children, we could have some more Zunders around.  Brendan, in New Haven, may not be the only one.

I may indeed have Louis' obit which would help.  But looking through what Dennis took in October.  Another picture of Maier!!  I forgot about this one.  It's from 1896 but the picture looks younger.

Who knows!!!
