This morning, I walked around Green Lake with my friend Mary Ann. Many people walk around Green Lake every day. It's a smooth level paved path 2.8 miles long (looked that up). Mary Ann lives right nearby. So she and I did it, I can do it just fine if I don't have to carry much of anything. And it's good for me. Felt good also. And we got to chat. Some canoe races going on or kayaks so lots of people around.
When I got home, I started on one of my many projects which is to go through the boxes of print pictures that Dennis took mostly of family and kid activities. Envelopes upon envelopes of soccer kids we don't recognize. Mostly 2000-2004 time frame. He would get the pictures developed (film camera) them mostly throw them in a box. I'm going through them and keeping very few which I'm filing by (approximate) year. For something.
Picked up an envelope. Pictures of milk carton derby pictures which takes place at ... Green Lake! The theme, the theme. The milk carton derby is part of Sea Fair. You have to make a boat where all flotation is done by (empty) milk cartons. All home made. There are races. One rule is that your boat has to still be afloat at the end of the race. Barely afloat, ok. There's only so many runs you can make with glued together or duct-taped milk cartons before the whole thing disintegrates. The girl scout team used to participate, make the boat. Fun. I remember one year, a father brought his little girl (5 years old?) to look at the boats. He chatted with the girl scouts and, before he knew it, he was part of the support team, carrying the boat around, trying to fix it, etc. Fun for his little daughter too.
Some pictures from the 2003 milk carton derby. Ilana is on the (pretty plain) girl scout boat. People can really get into the decorations!
