Photoessay #2011 - Getting ready

Naomi will return to Ellensburg in a few weeks.  Given the coming and going of twenty-something adult children, we have a fluid amount of furniture and items swirling around our household.  Susanna and Megan did a great job cleaning out our garage and selling items in a garage sale weekend.  They then put a lot of their own stuff in the garage as they could only take what they could fit in their small cars to Alabama.

Ilana and Matt took much of Ilana's remaining belongings to Indiana (including the silver tea set) in old suitcases.

So Naomi has a roommate and an apartment for this year.  And no furniture, natch.  So she's taking Megan's bed to Ellensburg for the time being.  Turns out to be a pretty big piece of furniture.  Dennis and Naomi dragged it out to see if they could put it together.  I think Dennis will take over a load the weekend after Labor Day.  Ellensburg is mercifully only two hours away (but a significant two hours over the Cascades) in our van.

Years ago, Dennis and Susanna crammed a ton of furniture into our van.  Bed and mattress, table and four chairs, bureau, plus lots of other stuff.  They didn't exactly get the early start to Eugene, left here about 6pm.  Getting on the freeway in the nearest entrance, they discovered that each thought the other had secured the top of the car-top carrier (now in Michigan/Indiana) and it flew off.  Dennis stopped and Susanna, the athlete, took off after it.  Somebody though she was running from an attacker and called the cops.  Meanwhile Dennis can't get the van started (it was probably traumatized).  So he had to contend with the police, trying to convince them that Susanna was indeed his daughter (doesn't look like him, duh) and they're trying to get to Eugene.  The cops gave him a jump and they made it in the middle of the night.

They got the bed together.  I will leave this all to them.
