Phootessay #2019 - SI Prom

Ilana's just about ready to graduate from the University of Michigan with a Masters Degree from the School of Information.  She starts her job as a business librarian with another prominent midwestern university just about a week after she graduates.  So she's really busy this week turning in her final projects, making her presentations and taking finals.

We show up on Thursday in Ann Arbor, we'll go to the SI graduation on Friday.

Also the big graduation at the stadium on Saturday.  Really, that's for me.  Everybody complains about the big graduations.  I worked the big graduation last year as an usher and I was so impressed at how joyous it was.  Many families from other backgrounds were there; maybe they were celebrating their first graduate.  The whole family would come invariably led by the grandma.  Who didn't speak english.  As far as she was going to let you know.  Seating was open, so grandma had to pause and pick out the very very best seat for her crew.  And you were not going to hurry her.  Maybe she speaks Hindi.  I know that I've got a whole bunch of grandma-led groups behind her.  She takes her time and finally moves her family group.  And then the next grandma-led group steps up.  This grandma apparently only speaks Russian and she's looking for the best seat.  You get the picture.  But I loved the joyous air.  I know it will all be my fault if it doesn't go well.

Just looked up, the speaker will be Sanjay Gupta, the CNN medical correspondent.  OK, we'll see how it goes.

The picture is from the School of Information Prom last weekend.  Ilana's wearing her high school prom dress.  She also wore it to the Engineer's Ball at UW a few years ago.  She's having a good time.  This Michigan program, though expensive for an out of state student has been fabulous from the very beginning.

Boyfriend Matt is on his way with his new car all packed with stuff.  He'll get there on Thursday.  Many thanks to my late mother's friends Stern and Mary who will put him up for the night in Rockford.

Everything's moving, can't you tell?
