Photoessay #1933 - Making crystals

We spent the day with Melina today; something which we haven't been able to do for a few months. At the Burke Museum, Melina was looking at a crystal growing kit in the gift shop. Dennis thought we might have something (which I didn't remember) at home. So now they are upstairs trying to make crystals from the kit that we had way up on a shelf in the laundry room. Unknown date and provenance. As in we have no clue where it came from or how old it is.

So they're up there fooling around with goggles, rocks and mysterious packets of colored something. We'll see if it works.

I had a $50 gift certificate to the University Book Store. Our first stop on this slushy slushy day was to there to get Melina a sweat shrt. Darn, don't think I took a picture of it. She chose a yellow one off the sale rack because it was her elementary school colors. Also a Roz Chast book and some books off the sale table--a book of Ansel Adams photographs marked down to $4.99 and a crazy yarn project book for Naomi. Then over to the UW Suzaallo and Odegaarde libraries to pick up some books and also to look for books about Cambodia and the Millau bridge (in France). There are rows of bookshevles about Vietnam and quite a bit shelf space for Thailand. But for Cambodia, just a very few books????? The Millau bridge was for a class project for Melina. We found one book that had a few pages. Turns out there's about a jillion pictures on the internet through Google. Pretty amazing structure, never heard about it.

Now, today was the first day in a week where people could get out. On Thursday night, the word came out from the City of Seattle....just go home. The storm was supposed to be done but wasn't. So wherever you were, working or shopping or visiting, just go home. So, on this Saturday, guess where EVERYBODY went. Including us. Costco, of course. I've never seen it so packed, you could not find a parking space in that huge lot. Plus you could barely get around. But we did it and even brought home a pizza for dinner.

Then Melina and Dennis started that science project....

My gas fireplace is still working great!
