Photoessay #1435 – Stormy Kit Carson

Another storm in California. No exception must because it’s nearly July. Stiff winds all around. Weather forecast calls for gusts near 40mph. Showers in the next 24 hours and it possibly snow at 8000 feet. We’re at 7300 feet so it could happen. Lows in the 30s. I heard that it’s raining in Marin coming this way. In the High Sierra, anything can happen with the weather. Not a good idea to rent a boat, the front office says maybe day after tomorrow. I hear there’s a letterbox on one of the islands. Maybe we’ll rent one of those with outboard motor.

Just walking around the grounds with the high winds and altitude affecting us. I’m not all that wild about going for a hike today. Maybe a short walk after lunch.

I’ve been thinking about the “California and me” them for essays and I like it a lot. I’ve already been doing it. My fall workshop piece about Priscilla’s death was supposed to be a gateway to UCSC in 1970 but I lost my way with it. I also wrote a piece very recently for my Inner Circle on our Summer theme mainly about light and heat in a triptych form. Also in the theme.

Still gorgeous here at Kit Carson. Both pictures taken from the dock this morning looking across the lake. Taken at different times so the light varies. I tried to synch them up but they wouldn’t. The lake looks rough.

Update: The clouds rolled in and the wind died down but still pretty chilly. Dennis and I went on an hour long hike which was plenty enough for us. I used one of my trekking sticks and it made a huge difference.

Yesterday’s oaky picture taken as we traveled up hwy 88 from Jackson.
