Work crises, they come and go, it's always something.
I'm likely moving into a (hopefully short) period where I am on the cusp of leaving/losing my job. Just the way it is. Signs of the times.
I've worked for them for 14 years. When I started, it was just the chairman, one faculty member, an assistant and myself. Now, dozens of people work there and the company has a large presence in the academic electronic publishing field. But things change, times change, you have to adapt and change with it. Isn't 'resistance to change' the nastiest accusation? Among certain groups, of course.
If it happens, it won't be a financial catastrophe. Hey, isn't that an advantage of not being paid much? Most every development has its silver lining. But I have devoted a large chunk of my life to it. So, losing my position definitely has its bite.
I don't underestimate the hurt and humiliation but as a friend of mine commented, in today's economy being unemployed has its touch of glamor. Good things will come of this either way. I'm confident of that.
