Photoessay #873 - Dog Park Project

I go to the Mountlake Terrace dog park ALL THE TIME. Definitely a regular. Or rather Teddy and I are regulars. I wonder...how many people use this facility? I talk to the president of the community group one day and he's just making gross estimates.

So I take this on. How can you estimate? I write a consultant who specializes in dog parks. She says, you have to have somebody there all the time (or take shifts) and count.

I'm trying an experiment this week (because I can). Not at all sure that it will result in any valid conclusions. Once or twice a day, I go to the dog park, I note how many people are there and, for an interval, count how many people come in the gate.

I'm counting visits. People making visits not dogs. Also noting the weather, weekend/weekday, morning/afternoon. I've been doing this for 5 days so far. It's never been empty when I come or when I go, always people there. The weather has not been great, but people cone in the rain. On Sunday afternoon 26 people came in a half hour interval.

Makes me feel important carrying around a clipboard. Self appointed, as usual.

Pictures show Teddy and Krystal mixing it up this afternoon. About the same age and size. And the view from the bench in the dog park. Pretty! Of course the wrestling dogs always insist on being right near or underneath the bench.
