Photoessay #228 - Boeings

When the older generation (like my mother in law's late cousin Alice) used to talk about working at the big aircraft company formerly based in Seattle, they used to refer to it as "working at Boeings" Alice used to work there as a seamstress sewing the fabric that they used to cover airplanes. On the outside. Guess it was a while back.

Picture taken last weekend on the way to Whidbey Island. The freeway to the ferry at Mukilteo runs right by Boeing's Everett plant (by design, I'm sure). This building used to be touted as the 'biggest building in the world'. Maybe it still is, I don't know. It's the main assembly for 747s. The cars give an idea of the size of that door which they repaint from time to time. Part of the Boeing tour involves (or used to) going out on a mezzanine overlooking that main factory floor where you could watch them work on a real 747. The best part of the tour by far.

Didn't you go on a tour once with Mom and Dad to that place?

Yes, that was the only time I've been on the tour. You know, you only take the time to go to those places if you have out of town guests.

My main memory is that Father and Danny had a huge control battle about whether Danny was going to go. Danny refused, etc etc. Nasty.
