This shot from 2005 (almost 10 years ago!) was taken on prom night. It's wonderful how they do prom these days. You do NOT have to have a date (though Ilana did). Tbe kids go together in groups. So everybody can go. Every single person can go.
So Ilana went with this whole group of fellow students. One of the parents had a little party before hand in their backyard and large amounts of picture-taking ensued. This picture came in an impulsive instant. Ilana (in the yellow) got together with three members of her girl scout troop and posed in solidarity using the girl scout salute.
Ilana is still a girl scout. She came by it genetically from my mother, her grandmother who was a lifelong girl scout. She never saw a girl scout thing that she didn't want to participate in. She was president of Campus Girl Scouts at the University of Washington (no, I didn't know there was such a thing either but we had a lot of their stuff in our garage). She's an assistant girl scout leader now.
And can I post this without commenting on her lovely dress? Bought at Eugene Goodwill for $12. Twelve Dallahs! Actually, a lot of good things came out of the Eugene Goodwill. She still wears the dress!
I may have posted this picture before in a different form but who can resist it! Other girl scouts featured include Kathryn, Lilian and Marie.
