Photoessay #2856 - Zunder crew

Another picture that jumped out at me, or at least was in the Facebook feed.  Ross B, son of my third cousin put up this picture.  Don't know if many others would get it,  He captioned it "Cleaning up the Zunder homes."

Did they really use those masks.  Entirely possible.

Brendan Zunder, definitely a life long eccentric died this past year.  The last of the Zunders, he claimed, likely right.  I've done a lot of work on the Zunder family in 19th century New Haven, specifically Maier Zunder, very talented accomplished community leader.  But, as I'm seeing in many communities, the families of the leaders, many from the first wave of German emigration, did not endure.

I'm grateful that I had a chance to meet and have lunch with Brendan Zunder, a year before his death.

Brendan died intestate and his cousin Ken B stepped up to take care of the estate.  Another cousin told me stories how Brendan's father, an English professor, had died in mysterious circumstances; fell from a window.  His widow moved back to New Haven close to relatives.  But her tiny house was always shut up and she didn't let anybody in there.  Awhile after her death, it was boarded up and just sat there for many decades.  Late in life Brendan married and moved to his wife's house.  She died several years ago and he didn't take care of that house either.

So the younger generation is cleaning out both houses.

More power to them!  What a job!

I was hoping that there might be some Zunder treasures or at least items in there.  Who knows?
