Photoessay #2866 - Gulf View

This is the view from our window of the gulf of mexico last week.  Inconguous to have those two high rise building way out on the spit, practically at the end.  Probably many environmental reasons not to build it.  But it was fun to stay a few nights on the fifth floor.

Looking out on a small development of beach houses onto the Gulf of Mexico.  Yes, that's an oil rig you see out there. You can't really pick it out in this shot but they are all over both in the Gulf and the Bay.  Mobile Bay is about the same distance from the other side of the building.

All the houses are built on stilts.  Think it floods?  Would you want to be here during a tsunami?  Nope.  My friend Julia talked about driving there during a storm many years ago.  She said that the blowing stand blinded them; they couldn't see the road.

My mother would have liked it....
