Tuesday in New Haven

I have some great picture but due to technical issues, I can't quite get them up tonight.

Mary Ann picked me up this morning and we went directly to the Jewish Historical Society which is housed in an Ethnic Cultural Center at Southern Connecticut State University. Building industrial but tons of stuff. We met with Marvin Barger, the archivist who was extremely helpful. Then Werner S came in and he really helped even more. We found some old birth records in German and he worked on translating them, showed me how to scan on the computer. They looked at the things I brought. Mary Ann and I were very busy. Most interesting to me are the old German documents also the articles in the New Haven papers from the latter half of the 19th century about the Board of Education. Really good things. Looked at two scrapbooks, most interesting was an elaborate B'nai B'rith memorial for MZ held in 1906, 5 years after he died.

Werner S also showed me a lot of hits on Google Books plus he gave me his collection of articles.

Later we came back to Mary Ann's house, had a delicious dinner made by Denny and then Mary Ann dragged out an old box of pictures from her basement she just found. Inside were dozens and dozens of pictures of the Lederers mostly not identified from Germany, New Jersey, Paris, New Haven. We will send them off to Sue Geiger, she'll love them!
